MINERAL SERIES – The Geometric Works of Montxu

In our Mineral Series, we work with large scale folded paper as a medium, and explore the contrast between pure mathematical designs and the human manipulation process.
We begin with a a perfect rectangular sheet of paper (paper space) and though high frequency folding, develop it into a complex shape, which we then, nudge, teach, train into a more natural form.
This to us, reminisce the natural process which produces minerals, starting from pure mathematical arrays, which then over long periods of time are shaped thought external factors, like erosion and temperature.
For the final piece, we bring the sculpture to nature and photograph it in-situ.
